Beverley Houston

Beverley needed a new outlet for her creative side after retiring from a fifty plus year career as a florist. She took up gardening and painting, however, gardening in Saskatchewan is only possible three to four months of the year, so painting filled in the other months. Beverley strove to improve her skills as a painter by taking classes at the Seniors’ Centre in Regina and attending various weekend workshops. She enjoyed a week-long artist’s retreat in Northern Saskatchewan. Beverley continues to work at improving her skills and has taken classes with accomplished art teachers such as Bill Maximick since residing in Courtenay, B. C. Her daughter-in-law, TaraLee Houston, is an Emily Carr graduate and she picks her brains continually for ideas and suggestions. Although the climate here enables Beverley to enjoy gardening almost twelve months of the year, the Comox Valley vistas have caused her to concentrate on and enjoy her painting more than ever. She continues to keep up with the Florals doing seasonal arrangements in her spare time.
